The color powder we use is custom manufactured and produced right here in the United States, and it's designed to be vibrant. Our color is made from food-grade quality cornstarch, is non-flammable, and is engineered to wash out very well. We could make it to where it would stain your clothes, but then it would stain your hair, skin, and toenails, and we don't want that any more than you do!
Yes! When you register for the Fun Run, you'll be able to state if you want to be grouped with a particular person or team. Try to coordinate this ahead of time so everyone uses the same name/team and we'll do our best to keep groups together when assigning color stations. Regardless, you'll all end up in the same place at the end for the group color throw!
Yes! We will have a photographer, videographer, and at least one drone on site to capture footage on the ground and through the air. Once we have time to process all of the images and videos, you'll receive a link to the gallery.
Yes! We encourage you to take your own photos and videos to post and share. In fact, if you send us your favorites, or tag us with #colorfulsoles, we'd love to add them to our website and social media channels.
Beware! Colorful powder will be everywhere, so to be totally safe, we recommend covering cameras/phones with a protective dust wrap. We will be adding a dust protector to every swag bag to help safeguard your phone. Be sure to use it!
Colorful Soles is not liable for any damage that might happen to your phone or camera so take proper precautions!
Oh my gosh, we love you already! We need at least 30 volunteers to throw color at participants throughout the course. If you're also able to help us with set-up and break-down, we would be so appreciative. However, even just offering to throw color would be amazing. With the Colorful Soles Fun Run being a private fundraising event, contributions are not tax deductible under IRS guidelines. Even though 100% of all proceeds after expenses will be contributed to the Ava Wood Scholarship Fund, we are not considered a 501(c)(3) organization. We thank you in advance for your generosity and support!
Yes! The event director will be inside the CNY Family Sports Centre on Friday, September 29th from 5pm to 8pm; and again on Saturday, September 30th from 10am to 1pm for those wanting to check-in early and collect their race packet and swag bag.
For those who don't do early pickup, event day check-in and packet pick up will start at 10:00am at the entrance of the upper fields. The race will begin shortly after 12pm noon, so you're encouraged to grab your packet as soon as you're able.
Yes, but they MUST have a printed or digital copy of the confirmation email or the unique QR code for each pack they are collecting since every registered participant has their own unique code.
Every participant is a winner for helping to support such a wonderful cause. We will not time participants and there won't be a "finish line" since everyone will start and end at their assigned color. It's a day of colorful fun, not a true race with placed finishers.
Once all runners have completed their laps (three laps for runners, one lap for walkers), everyone will meet at the designated group color throw spot on the map to "Paint the sky for Ava". You'll be given handfuls of vibrant color and everyone will throw their powder high into the air on the count of three so we can fill the sky with blended color.
After the big throw, participants are welcome to keep tossing color into the air and at each other (avoid faces!). A photographer, videographer, and drone will be on site to capture footage on the ground and in the air. All participants will get a copy of post-race photographs and video.
All of our color powder is certified non-toxic, biodegradable, and is a combination of cornstarch, baking soda, and FD&C (food-safe) dyes. Even so, you'll want to avoid getting it in your eyes and mouth. It looks pretty, but it won't taste good!
You may want to consider wearing glasses for your eyes and a bandana or face covering for your mouth. Remember, if you generate at least $57 in donations, you'll receive a pair of tie-dye sunglasses and a tie-dye bandana for race day.
Our volunteer color throwers will aim below the neck as you pass by and we ask that you do the same when throwing color at others.
Most definitely! We just ask that they stay off the course paths and avoid the large roped-off field. It's a lot of fun to just watch the colorful chaos, but make sure they know that all the colored powder will be hard to avoid!
Absolutely! You decide your pace. The Colorful Soles Fun Run is all about a colorful crazy day with friends and family. You can run, jog, walk, or cartwheel your way through the course if you wish! Runners will complete TWO laps and walkers will complete ONE (or two if you can be fast). This way, everyone will finish at about the same time for the big color throw finale.
The color will most likely wash out after the event, but it will really depend on the material and just how much color you're blasted with. As with anything dirty, the sooner you wash it the better.
If you raise $38 in total funds, you'll be given a white branded race t-shirt to wear for the fun run, but we suggest wearing items that you wouldn’t mind getting colorful (shorts, socks, shoes). You will be coated in color!

Kind of. We will have a leaf blower turned color blower available for those wanting a quick dusting off, but you won't be 100% void of powder. We recommend bringing a few towels to lay down for the drive home, but consider the remaining color your badge of honor for a good deed done well!
The Colorful Soles Fun Run was created to honor and celebrate the vibrant life of Ava Wood, someone taken far too soon through an unfathomable tragedy.
All net proceeds after expenses will be donated directly to the Ava Wood Scholarship Fund established in her name, which will provide an educational scholarship to a selected Baldwinsville CSD student. With the scholarship intended to be annual, we hope to continue the event each year to make sure that her scholarship fund and her memory live on.
Unfortunately, due to the advanced planning and logistics of coordinating a fun run of this nature, entry fees and donations are NON-REFUNDABLE. We apologize, but you will not receive a refund if you cannot participate. You will, however, still receive all earned or purchased race merch.
If you would like to transfer your registration to someone else, this must be done no later than September 15th. We cannot accept registration transfers after this date. Please note that the new registrant will be required to complete a waiver in order to participate. Please contact us if you would like to transfer your registration to another individual.
